Manitoba Senior AAA Teams take to the ice!
The Southeast Prairie Thunder are preparing to defend their Manitoba Senior AAA Championship with some additional regular season games.
There will be 3 teams competing for the right to represent Manitoba in the Western Championships and a chance to advance to the 2009 Allan Cup Tournament, which will be held in Steinbach this year.
The Prairie Thunder will join the Selkirk Rivermen and the Steinbach Northstars in a quest for the Cup in 2009. The teams will play a number of regular season games against one another prior to playoffs.
The Prairie Thunders 2009 Schedule has been released. There will be 15 games played prior to the 2009 Allan Cup Playoffs.

The Western final was a tough five game series for both teams. The series went the distance and Lloydminster prevailed in the end, winning game 5 and advancing to the 100th Allan Cup in Branford Ontario.
The Thunder were one win short of making it to the Allan Cup in 2008 and look forward to the challenge next season, when the tournament will be held in Steinbach. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the team in their playoff run this year!

Southeast Prairie Thunder are Manitoba Senior AAA Champions!
The Thunder took their 3-1 series lead over the North Stars into game five. The Thunder were able to close out the series in convincing fashion Friday night in Steinbach with a 7-4 win.
South East will now entertain the Loydminster Border Kings in a best of five series to be played in Steinbach beginning on March 28th at 8pm.

Steinbach Arena was the scene of game 4 of the Manitoba Senior AAA finals Sunday night. A great crowd was treated to a thrilling 4-3 OT win by the Prairie Thunder.
Tim Skarperud broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period on the power play to give the Thunder a late lead. The North Stars were awarded a late Power Play and put the goalie on the bench in hopes of tying up the game. The Stars did just that, banging home a bounce off the end boards to send it into sudden death overtime.
In the end, the Prairie Thunder power play clicked when it mattered most, as Jay Panzer sent home the winning goal off a goal crease scramble to stake the Thunder to a commanding 3-1 series lead.
Brent Zelenewich was outstanding in goal for the Thunder in the win. Tim Skarperud had 2 goals on the night and continues to lead the team in playoff scoring.
Game 5 goes Friday March 14th at 8pm in Steinbach.

The Thunder took their 2-0 series lead into game 3 Friday evening in Altona. South East came out strong with some early offense to establish a 2-0 lead, however, the North Stars were able to convert 3 unanswered power play goals to take a 3-2 lead headed into the third frame. The Thunder had many chances to tie and were unable to make use of a late power play. IDC held on for the 3-2 win to bring the Manitoba Final series to 2-1 in favor of the Prairie Thunder.
Bob MacGregor and Jay Panzer had goals for South East. Tyson Ramsey scored the game winner, while Jomar Cruz posted the win in net for the North Stars.
Next game is Sunday March 9th at 7pm in Steinbach.

Sunday action saw the South East Prairie Thunder down the IDC North Stars 6-5 at the Millenium Centre in Altona, MB.
The Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but by the end of the first period, the Prairie Thunder had scored 4 unanswered goals for a 4-3 lead. The teams exchanged power play goals to make it 5-5 with a few minutes left in the final frame. Tim Skarperud blasted a one timer past Stars goalie Trevor Clay with 2:55 left in the game. The Thunder held on for the win and a 2-0 series lead.
Tim Skarperud led the way for the Thunder with a hat trick, while Kelly Glowa recorded a 4 point night for Ile Des Chenes.
Game 3 will be Friday at 8pm at the Millenium Centre in Altona.

Manitoba Senior AAA playoffs began Friday night at the IDC Arena. Grunthal, now playing as the Southeast Prairie Thunder, took a 1-0 series lead with a convincing 7-2 victory over the IDC North Stars.
The series shifts to Altona for game 2, Sunday March 2nd at 3pm.

Weekend action saw the Red Wings visit the MSU-Bottineau Jacks in Bottineau, ND for a two game set.
Game 1: The Wings pulled out a 4-3 victory in their second meeting of the year with the Lumber Jacks Saturday night. Tyler Palmiscno and Dale Butland had a goal and assist each, while Dan MacDonald made 32 saves in goal for the win.
Game 2: Sunday afternoon was another close one with the Wings earning a hard fought 6-5 Victory. Dan Kohanchuk scored what would turn out to be the game winner late in the third period. The Wings killed off a late penalty to hold on for the weekend sweep.
Wings will practice this week in preparation for the upcoming Manitoba playoffs beginning February 29th in IDC. (See Schedule).

The Red Wings handed the T-Bay Hawks their second strait loss on Saturday by a score of 5-4, completing the weekend sweep!
The team goes on the road to take on the MSU Jacks in Bottineau February 16th & 17th.

Friday night saw the Thunder Bay Hawks visit the Red Wings for the first of a two game series on the weekend. The Red Wings jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on goals from Jon Froese, Ryan Dyck and Jeff Ullwelling. Grunthal goaltender Brent Zelenewich made a number of key saves for the win, and the Red Wings never let up, completing the blowout win 7-1.
Brent Toews put an exclamation mark on the night for Grunthal, making quick work of a Hawks enforcer in a late scrap.
Saturday nights game will be played at the Altona Arena at 8pm.

The MSU Bottineau Jacks rolled into Grunthal Sunday to take on the Red Wings before a packed house at the Grunthal Arena. Both teams came out hard, but the Red Wings turned out to be too much for the Jacks to handle, and MSU recorded only their second loss of the season by a score of 8-5. Marshall Cox and Dan MacDonald split duties in goal for the Red Wings, while Cody Didychuk suffered the loss for MSU.

The Kenora Thistles downed the Grunthal Redwings 4-2 in exhibition action Sunday at Grunthal Arena. The Thistles scored a late goal to take a 3-2 lead with seconds to go in the game, then added an empty netter to seal the deal.
